Residual current circuit breakers (RCDs) protect people and equipment against dangerous fault currents. They interrupt the circuit within milliseconds as soon as a fault current to earth occurs – for example due to a faulty appliance or a damaged cable. This significantly reduces the risk of electric shock and helps prevent fires.
